Our guide to office design and layout showcases the process our commercial interior design team goes through in order to bring your project to life. From the initial site meeting, where one of our Interiors Consultants will meet with you to determine your requirements and preferences, all the way through to the design and development of the overall workspace, which may include the presentation of 3D renders and high-spec visuals.
In this guide, we have provided an example of one of our award-winning projects for digital production agency, REWIND, which will give you an idea of the process we work through with our clients, along with the amount of time we invest in order to deliver a project that will fulfil - and hopefully, exceed - your expectations. Let's take a look...
Step 1: To the drawing board...
After the initial site visit has been completed, brief taken, budget understood, and measurements recorded, our in-house design team will work on the production of a plan view drawing (see the corresponding examples). This will give you a good idea as to what you can fit into your office space in regards to furnishings and amenities, such as tea-points, breakout spaces, etc.
At this stage, we will look to discuss what you want to do in each area of your office and plan the project accordingly. We will then look to appraise the layout and positioning of certain elements to make sure that the practicalities of your project can be fully achieved. It is worth noting that we offer this service completely free of charge! Take a look at our space planning and office layout page to find out more.

Did you know?
We don't just design office interiors, oh no! We can help to strip out, dismantle and refurbish offices of all shapes and sizes.
We can also offer move management services and out of hours work, allowing you to focus on the day-to-day running of your business.
Step 2: It's all in the details!
This next stage is where we bring your project to life! Once the technical layout of your office is finalised, we can then help you to visualise your workspace by providing you with detailed close-ups of key areas, for example, staff rooms and kitchens, breakout spaces, WCs, and additional finishes, fixtures and furnishings.
We can also look to design bespoke features for your office, including custom lighting installations, exposed bulkhead details, graffiti artwork and much more. The only limit is your imagination!
When designing an office workspace it is important that the workspace not only looks the part, but acts the part, too, making sure that your team are happy, healthy, and productive.
Step 3. Fixtures, fittings and furnishings
This is the part of the project where you can let your creativity explode! From orange desks to pink chairs, we have you covered. Influence the design and make it your own.
At this stage, we will look to offer you a suitable selection of furniture options from our featured suppliers: Narbutas, Ocee Design and OFQUEST. These will be recommended based on your operational requirements and space allowance.
We can also look to incorporate different textures, themes and ideas into your office in order to make your dream office interior a reality.
Our in-house interiors experts will be able to recommend various furnishings to suit your office environment.
Whether you're looking for durable furnishings to last the long run, or stylish furnishings to make that all important impression, we will find the products that are right for you.
Step 4: From rendering to reality
The final stage of the office design and layout process is the potential to have 3D visuals of your project rendered to near-photorealistic standards*. Once this is complete, we will then present these renders in order to show you how your office will look in reality.
After this stage has been completed and you are happy with how your office will look, we will then - subject to order - hand over the project to our project delivery team who will develop a schedule of works with timetables suitable for all parties. Our team will then turn rendering into reality.
*Please Note* Our in-house, 3D rendering service will be offered on a project-by-project basis. Please get in touch to find out more.
Depending on your requirements and timescales, we are able to create near, life-like renders of interiors products and commercial interior environments via our in-house design team.
We can help you to visualise all aspects of your office, from canteens to WCs. Take a look at the corresponding image examples.
Step 5: Looking ahead...The future of office design and space planning
At SEC Interiors we're always looking into new trends, developments and technology in order to provide the best experience for our clients.
Our in-house design team have recently experimented with VR (Virtual Reality) headsets and technology such as Oculus Rift and hTC VIVE™, which may one day allow our clients' to explore their new office environments, furnishings and finishes like never before... in 3D!
In the near future, it will no longer just be a flat piece of paper on display, oh no! You'll be able to explore and navigate around a fully realised, digital representation of what our team has created for you. Watch this space!
