A unique solution for the storage of motorcycle stillages
Premium Warehousing having recently been awarded a contract for the storage of a German motorcycle manufacturer’s products were in need of a solution that would provide ultimate capacity, maximising the existing warehouse space in order to fit in as many motorcycle products as possible.
SEC Storage were invited to submit designs for the project upon recommendation from Premium Warehousing’s chosen materials handling equipment supplier, however the existing storage operation was based on a standard bulk stacking method, unsuitable for long-term operations and so a more effective solution was required. SEC’s initial warehouse appraisal led to the elimination of a VNA (very narrow aisle) racking solution, as a system such as this could not support the unique stillage required for the storage of the product type. Instead, SEC looked to design a bespoke systemand the first of its kind.
A reconfigured adjustable pallet racking solution
The solution was to build an adjustable pallet racking system that is configured on a traditional single deep, double entry basis. However, instead of using two full depth frames the unique design utilised three individual frames. One shared central frame where the racking flue is typically located, and a front frame supporting the product stillage. Each beam level was then timber decked, allowing for the efficient loading of the long motorbike stillage into the rack.
