After an initial site visit and consultation, SEC Storage dismantled and removed the existing adjustable pallet racking to allow for the floor to be painted, and then re-installed once painting was complete. Drive-in pallet racking was also installed, working on a FILO (first-in, last-out) principle; particularly effective for food products and seasonal goods storage.
The elimination of aisles allows for the maximisation of cubic space, increasing overall storage density and temperature controlled efficiency. Drive-in racking is particularly popular with clients with cold-store environments, as was the case at Lantmännen Unibake’s, Bedford based warehouse storage facility.
Floor channel guides were also installed to the bottom of the racking frames, acting as a navigational guide system for forklift truck operations and general product handling. The floor guides also act as a general safeguard. The system is easy to install, whilst helping to reduce the impact of forklift truck collisions, in turn, increasing the longevity of the overall racking structures.
Drive-in racking can function as an excellent warehouse storage solution due to its compact, and highly dense nature. The system enables more pallets to be stored per cubic metre than any other warehouse racking system, and it turned out to be the perfect solution for Lantmännen Unibake’s operational requirements.
