IMHX 2016: Top 5 Reasons to Visit

If you are a member of the warehousing and logistics community you will know that IMHX 2016 will opening its doors very, very soon! If you are still unsure whether you need to pay the exhibition a visit, here's our Top 5 reasons why you should!

But firstly, for those that don’t know IMHX (the International Materials Handling Exhibition) is the largest meeting place for the UK’s logistics industry which is held every 3 years. Held at the NEC Birmingham from 13th to 16th September, there will be over 450 exhibitors and over 20,000 expected visitors to the show.

The latest technology from all the leading intralogistics companies will be on show from pallet racking to forklift trucks, safety equipment, warehouse management systems and pallet providers. A full exhibitor list can be found by clicking here.

So, just why should you visit IMHX?

1. It's Full, Really full. And free!

The team at SHD Logistics, one of the media partners and organisers behind the exhibition have now confirmed it is full! There is no further floor space available. The exhibition will be taking place at the NEC Birmingham with over 450 companies exhibiting (including SEC Storage, see us on the UKWA Pavilion Stand UK6!).

It will cover 5 halls in total. Halls 9, 10, 11 and 12 were part of the original plan. Hall 8 was added due to such high demand which means the 2016 event will be 25% bigger than in 2013!

What’s more, it is COMPLETELY FREE to register and attend!

If you can’t find what you’re after at IMHX, we don’t think you’ll find it!

2. Learn - Free-to-Attend Seminars!

This year there is a free-to-attend seminar programme! You will be able to learn from some of the industries biggest companies in the UK. Key exhibitors and their customers will be showcasing the latest case studies and trends, to help keep the UK informed.

Sessions start on Tuesday 13th September at 10:00am and the last one is Friday 16th September at 12:45pm, so, you’ll be sure to find something interesting. To see the full seminar programme click here.

With so many great seminars, you could spend your whole time not seeing exhibitors! So why not visit and take what you’ve learnt back to your business?

3. Skills - They're the Future!

New at IMHX for 2016 is the Future Skills Zone and Future Skills Presentation Theatre.

The Skills Zone will be highlighting careers available to young people. Britain’s logistics workforce is ageing and it isn’t seen as a viable career for school and higher education leavers. The Future Skills Zone aims to target those aged 14+ with hands on activities and career opportunities.

Have a son, daughter, grandchild, niece or nephew? Bring them along (but get permission from their school first)!

Also the Skills Zone will give you, employers, information on how you can better attract new, young talent and incorporate them into your workforce using apprenticeships.

The Future Skills Presentation Theatre is where you can go to really find out how to develop your own future workforce with education leavers and apprenticeships.

What’s more it’s free! See the full presentation programme by clicking here.

4. Demonstration Zone - the Internet Only Tells You So Much!

Again, new for 2016 at IMHX is the Demonstration Zone!

In Hall 10, taking place daily from 10:30am, some of the world’s leading forklift truck and materials handling companies will be showcasing the best of what they have to offer.

If you want to see how that new forklift really works alongside your pallet racking and storage systems, this will be the place, up close and personal.

For example, Toyota Material Handling will be focusing on their latest developments in order picking and towing solutions; two key trends with the growth of eCommerce. Their new order picker, the BT Optio OSE250 reduces the need for the operator to step off the truck during picks. This is not only time efficient, but safe!

5. See Award Winning Solutions - the Best of the Best!

On Thursday 16th September the third annual SHD Logistics Awards will be held. Over 500 industry professionals are expected to attend the Awards to see some of the finest end users and suppliers be recognised for intralogistics excellence over the last 18 months.

This year the Awards will have comedian Katherine Ryan as host to not only entertain the audience but hand over the awards.

Can’t attend the prestigious black tie event? Don’t worry! A large number of finalists and their suppliers will be exhibiting at IMHX.

These include Toyota Materials Handling, UKWA, Impact Handling, Unipart Logistics and not forgetting, SEC Storage (we’re finalists with our clients Essentra plc and Rolls-Royce plc!)

BONUS - the NEC Birmingham - as Central as it Gets!

IMHX will be held at the NEC Birmingham. It’s just 8 miles east of Birmingham City Centre and in close proximity to the M6, M42, M5 and M40, so it’s very easy to get to.

What’s more, there’s over 16,500 parking spaces! Satnav? B40 1NT!

Coming by plane or train?

It’s just minutes away from Birmingham Airport (BHX) with a free and fast Air-Rail Link which runs every 2 minutes, taking just 90 seconds.

By train, get off at Birmingham International Railway Station and take the very short walk. You don’t even have to go outside!

So there we have it, 5 very excellent reasons why you should visit the once every 3 year show! In addition to over 450 suppliers of products and services, you have the opportunity to learn from some of the leading logistics industry voices!
