IMHX 2016: Our Review of the Exhibition

This year's IMHX was filled with an array of fantastic products, services and people. With over 400 exhibitors spread across multiple halls of the NEC in Birmingham, if you visited, you might of felt a bit overwhelmed at it all. So we thought we'd share a few of our favourite highlights from the event, whilst looking forward to the trends shaping the warehousing and logistics industry over the next few years...

IMHX (The International Materials Handling Exhibition)

This was the first time that SEC had exhibited at IMHX, which occurs every three years. The show featured over 400 exhibitors and an estimated 20,000 logistics and supply chain professionals, who came together to make IMHX 2016 the biggest it has ever been! This represented a perfect opportunity for SEC to make our debut, with our stand (featured below) located on the rather busy UKWA Pavilion.

The Magic of SEC...

As it was the first time we had done an event of this kind, we along with many others wanted to showcase our company in a rather innovative manner. Our magician Lee (seen below) entertained the crowds with his tricks, giving our team the perfect platform to discuss and showcase our unique projects, services and skills. Numerous visitors and exhibitors dropped by the stand to see the magic of SEC, and to better understand what we do as a company and how we do it. Many thanks to those who came to visit us on the pavilion.

The Magic of SEC...

We even had a visit from the Gary Forster, the CEO of Transaid Organisation who dropped off a hand-made African cyclist, gifted to SEC for our support of the fantastic Transaid Bicycle Ambulance initiative. You can find out more about what they do and get involved here. Team SEC also paid a visit to the Transaid stand, where we managed to generate enough power to save 262 lives in the #LiftToSaveLives challenge. A fantastic effort from all involved!

The Best of the Show

There was some fantastic stands and displays at the exhibition (as expected) with some companies spending literally millions on the event to draw the crowds. We saw the likes of acrobatic contortionists, mezzanine supported cocktail bars and installation artists painting with toy trucks to name but a few. If you were lucky enough, you might of even had the chance to take a Zelfie by the front entrance. These colourful features and presentations were accompanied by leading product showcases and seminars, with a particular emphasis on robotic automation, warehouse safety, software and unique storage solutions. Take a look at an expansive shot of the showfloor below.

The 2016 SHD Logistics Awards

At this years SHD Logistics Awards, SEC were nominated in two categories. For the second year running we received a nomination in the 'Warehouse Efficiency' category for our rack supported multi-tier project with Rolls-Royce plc, and secondly in the 'New Facility' category for our multi-tier picking structure with intelligent conveyor system with Essentra plc.

The 2016 SHD Logistics Awards

Having previously won at last years awards with our multi-tier solution for Kuehne + Nagel Ltd in Milton Keynes, we looked forward to the event with great anticipation. Sadly, we didn't manage to win on the night, but we have to say a massive congratulations to all of the nominees and winners. The show was well organised, and we are none-the-less proud of what we have achieved throughout the exhibition, along with being acknowledged and nominated as a leader within the storage solutions industry. A momentous achievement in itself.

Looking Towards the Future...

It is with great excitement that we look towards the future, with so many exciting developments happening both within the materials handling industry and at SEC. The emerging trends in the materials handling industry seem focused upon robotics and automation, with a move towards semi-autonomous, bespoke storage solutions that will give businesses the opportunity to run their warehouses 24/7. The world of Terminator and SkyNet may not be too far away, but jokes aside, this looks like a rather interesting emerging trend. Keep your eyes peeled.

Future Trends: Warehouse Automation & Robotics

To finish, we would like to say a final thank you to all those involved for organising such a great event. It was a fantastic opportunity for the team at SEC to meet and network with our clients and visitors, and here's to the next one in three years time... If you're in need of a warehouse storage or pallet racking solution, then don't hesitate to get in touch. We'd be happy to help.
